This build was built as commission for a groom as a wedding gift for his bride, as the bride and groom use "Dumpling" and "Egg Roll" as nicknames for each other. I was glad to be able to help make their dream a reality!
Both foods are deceptively complex. The final design for the dumpling was only found after untold hours of iterating trying to capture the dumpling's spiral shape. Eventually, I opted for a design that makes liberal use of 1x2 curved wedge slopes.
The egg roll is built around a 1x2 core, but the challenge was to have enough studs in every direction to hold the shell on. The visible clips extending from that core allow the two halves of the egg roll to be clipped together, with the paired wedge plates sealing up perfectly.
The bowl was simple, but contains one of my favorite details! The semi-transparent sweet chili sauce is replicated with a set of two 6x6 dishes,a transparent orange one overlaying a reddish orange one. The chopsticks feature a subtle taper from a 1x1 square to 1x1 round to the slightly smaller pin connectors and terminating in a series of candles.
I had a vision for the photo of this project: I wanted to make it look like stock food photography. To make that vision a reality, I found an appropriate plate (quite small as to make the build look bigger) and napkin (folded in thirds to fit the plate size) and photographed them on a wooden table. After plenty of color adjustment and masking work in Photoshop, I had the shot that I had envisioned when I began!
