I built these figures as a wedding gift for two friends of mine who took their engagement photos while studying abroad together in Rome. The stunning photos, included below, were taken by Rita Foldi.
The biggest challenge for this build was the bride-to-be's floral dress. I knew I was going to use classic flowers, embedded into various brackets and modified bricks, but nailing down the dress shaping with this in mind proved to be more difficult than initially planned. The first many drafts of the model utilized upside-down wedge plates mounted at odd angles, dotted with flowers and individual green parts. However, the angles and gaps did not fit with my established Miniland figure style and the scattered green parts did not read as leaves. Ultimately, I found that using brackets or pairs of two perpendicular plates/tiles made the green parts more cohesive.
While an obvious choice, I am also proud of how well the 1x2 profile bricks capture the ribbed texture on the groom-to-be's sweater.

Miniland figures often use tall slopes, such as 1x2x2 or 1x2x3, to capture dresses, but those use a lot of space and made it difficult to continue the floral pattern around the whole body. Luckily, a few months before I designed these figures, LEGO introduced a new 1x2x2/3 slope. When combined with brackets, this can be used in place of the traditional tall slope and allow more space for details. This figure uses 6 of these slopes in white to capture all of subtle folds of the dress!
